Scratching My Skull II; Reaching the Brain

It starts small, when you used to get punished by your family when you do something wrong. First it’s the weekend, then it could turn into the possessions you love. What happens when all your possessions are taken away, and your left with yourself. And your voice. The only way it stops is if the action or words that you’re using changes for the better. For instance, I’m sure some people used the F-word in the heat of the moment. Find a different word to express the emotions of anger or discontent. What if it’s science-based? Communication is important for survival, I don’t know if all animals communicate, but I do know we do. Taking away meaningful language that silences the speaker, is a slippery-slope. Here’s a quote from the article “Uproar Over Purported Ban at C.D.C. of Words Like ‘Fetus’” (Kaplan, McNeil Jr. Dec 2017) taken by The New York Times by a source who wasn’t named;

“They’re saying not to use it in your request for money because it will hurt                              you. It’s not about censoring what C.D.C. can say to the American public. It’s                          about a budget strategy to get funded.” (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/16/health/cdc-trump-banned-words.html)

I’d like to break down this quote for a moment. If we take a look at the bulk of this statement; “request for money” or “budget strategy” or “get funded”; All which have to do with currency. From the looks of it, not only does the socio-economic of our country have a major impact of what people can accomplish, it’s now dictating the language that’s used in a medical report. It’s bad enough that it took days for people in Puerto Rico to get the help that they need, instead the focus of our leadership is on banning words. If a person in the sciences are being told what they can say or what they can’t say is an issue that needs to be fixed or the silencing of our voices will continue to be silenced. With all the issues that’s going on in our country, the banning of words shouldn’t be one of them. This ban can open the doors to others, staying in front of this problem is the only way that American’s can keep it in check. What will happen to America’s future if this goes unchallenged?
